The fruit of our life depends on the honor we have for God. When God plans to promote us, we go through experiences that make us humble. Success and failure in life depend on how we use honor.
The attitude of our heart must be one of respect. A lack of respect for others is evidence of pride. Pride shows that we are immature and produces our demise as shown in the condemnation of the devil.

Romans 1:24-25
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness to the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves; who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever
Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did exchange the natural use for that which is against nature.
